Silane Coupling Agent - Auxiliary for Polymer Composites

Silane Coupling Agent is an important and widely used treatment agent: it is mainly used as an auxiliary agent for polymer composite materials.

Silane coupling agent is the earliest researched and applied coupling agent. Due to its unique properties and the continuous advent of new products, its application fields have gradually expanded, and it has become an important branch of the silicone industry.

Silane coupling agents are also called vinyl silanes, amino silanes, epoxy silanes, mercapto silanes and methacryloxy silanes, etc. These organofunctional silanes are commonly used silane coupling agents.

The application of silane coupling agent can be roughly divided into three aspects:

1. For the surface treatment of glass fiber, it can improve the bonding properties of glass fiber and resin, and greatly improve the strength, electrical, water resistance, weather resistance and other properties of glass fiber reinforced composite materials. The improvement of the mechanical properties of the material is also very effective. At present, the use of silane coupling agent in glass fiber has been quite common, and the silane coupling agent used in this aspect accounts for about 50% of its total consumption, among which the most used varieties are vinyl silane, amino silane, Methacryloxysilane, etc.

2. It is used to fill plastics with inorganic fillers. The filler can be surface-treated in advance or directly added to the resin. It can improve the dispersion and adhesion of fillers in resins, improve process performance and improve the mechanical, electrical and weather resistance properties of filled plastics (including rubber).

3. As a tackifier for sealants, adhesives and coatings, it can improve their bonding strength, water resistance, weather resistance and other properties. Silane coupling agents can often solve the problem that some materials cannot be bonded for a long time.
